Today I was honored to have Stephanie and her mom come into town from over 2 hours away, to have me take her senior portraits.
Stephanie chose the outdoor session, and we chose around 9 locations during our three hour session. Starting at 5PM, we worked our way downtown and finished at the beach around 8PM at sunset.
Stephanie and Mom Melissa, thanks so much for coming to Erie. I hope you are delighted with your senior portraits!
Tonight was our Pets! night in our Adventures in Photography class series. We had a couple of eager pups ready to pose for the camera. After getting to know each other, Emma and Abby were very well behaved ladies and ended up being great models.
We learned how to set up to photograph pets, under natural indoor and outdoor light, as well as under studio strobes. A few treats were given out, but hey, who couldn’t use a treat now and then?
These came from one of our students’ cameras.
Once again we feared a rained out session. It was like Erie in October: cool, windy and the sky filled with gray clouds. Mackenzie started in the studio and we captured some interesting images with several different backdrops, including one of our newest, which I’ll nickname “Arizona Hippie”.
We then moved north to my favorite mural wall and underpass, which was also a favorite of Mackenzie. We hit a couple other spots and finished at the beach. There was no sunset tonight, but we captured some great images in and near the water. Mackenzie was up for some experimentation, so we tried some “flying water” images at the end, which required her to be in the lake. We got some really interesting shots with the stormy clouds in the background.
Great job, Mackenzie!
Stefania and her mother traveled quite a distance for today’s session. I was certain it would be a washout, as it has rained for the last 24 hours and the radar didn’t indicate any relief. We talked it over on their ride into Erie, and we decided to go for it.
We actually had decent weather. There was no rain, and no sun to speak of. But the breeze was refreshing and the humidity low. We focused on some interesting downtown scenes, and then headed to the beach.
The breakers were 3 footers – large for Lake Erie – and loud. The skies were a great layer of worrisome gray and dark blue, with a touch of pink at the horizon. We used my trusty “sun maker” and created some really nice beach images. We even borrowed a volleyball for a shot at the sand courts.
Great images, Stefania! More to come soon!
Samantha is an amazing dancer. Her senior portraits session mixed some posed and action dance shots with some more traditional poses in regular clothes. Many of the dance shots were very dynamic, involving leaps and great poses silhouetted against the evening sky.
Tonight we headed to Presque Isle for some beach photos with our Adventures in Photography class. Starting on the bay side we captured some images with the city and sailboats in the background. Then, we then headed to the beach for sunset photos. I even managed an after-dark cityscape photo!
Some of these are from my camera, and some from my wife’s camera. A great photo evening!
Last weekend, Catherine and Patrick had a wonderful outdoor wedding ceremony. The setting outdoors was amazing, with a Mediterranean themed setting. I’ll post images on the dining setting later.
Here are some great images of Catherine, Patrick and their families and friends from this great ceremony.
Alex and I focused on his athletic abilities and some of his chosen sports. I emphasized what I call “Guy Lighting” – higher contrast with kickers from behind and sides.
I think we got some good images. Great job, Alex!
Last Saturday was a perfect wedding day. Not too hot, and no rain until after the reception began.
Art and Betsy’s ceremony was very nice, featuring a candle ceremony offered by the bridal party.
Following formals at Our Lady of Peace, the bridal party headed to the beach for some outdoor images, and then we headed to the reception.
Betsy and Art, you are a great couple!
