Senior Portraits in Erie: Alyssa

Alyssa’s two loves are horses and guitars. We focused on these tonight, and ended up with some amazing images.
Here are some images at her family farm with her favorite horse:
I was in a “texture” mood tonight, so a couple of these images have some special effects.
This one is pretty much straight out of the camera. There’s the family farm barn in the background.
Then we headed downtown for some indoor and outdoor images. Here are a couple. I got into a Black and White/Partial Color mood:
This one has a nice dramatic BW finish. But the key is the pose, and the tunnel effect from the Sas underpass.
A different treatment of my rusty wall. Partial color on the tye-dye shirt.

Alyssa, you have many great images. I dig the Les Paul!

Kaela’s Senior Portraits in Erie

Tonight was a great summer-fall transition evening – cool, breezy and pleasant. The fluffy clouds appeared, but the skies were bright and blue.
Kaela started with some images of bridges and waterfalls near her home.  Here is a great early image:
We then moved to our downtown studio for some shots under studio lighting and using our great 110-year-old settings:
Next. we chose several outdoor settings that Kaela enjoyed, including a fire escape and a few other locations:
But the real treat of the evening was this late August sunset. I see these just a couple times a year. It requires a clear day with some fluffy clouds passing by:
It’s called “Second Sunset”, where the sun underlights closer clouds. There was actually a “Third Sunset” that we saw on the way home, hitting the higher cirrus clouds.

Kaela, you are a lucky lady! And you had some great images tonight!

Erie Senior Portraits: Jenna’s Journey

Jenna is a dancer. She is also a Senior, but what became clear to me tonight was that she thoroughly enjoys being a dancer.
We started in the studio with some great poses that she specifically wanted to try. Here is one on a black background, and another interesting one on white:
We photographed some other clothing changes as well. Here’s a nice black and white image of one outfit:
We then headed outdoors, hitting some of my favorite locations as well as a new one featuring sunflowers:
Then we hit the beach, and had a great time capturing some action shots of various leaps and other acrobatic and dance poses and moves:

Great images, Jenna! Many more to come soon!

Senior Pictures in Erie County: Claire

Tonight was Claire’s evening. We started at one of her favorite locations, the beautiful Lawrence Park Golf Club and captured several nice images on this wonderful late summer evening.
Following the initial outdoor images, we headed indoors for a few really neat images featuring Claire’s Harry Potter collection. I know my daughter will be envious of this image!
Next, we headed outdoors again for some more great Erie summer senior images. Here are a couple:

Great images, Claire! Thanks so much for choosing us for your senior portraits!

Senior Photography in Erie: Victoria

Once again we sweated the weather, but Erie’s amazing summers came through. Victoria started in the studio
with several nice outfits. We had a generous musician help us with this great piano image:
Above is another nice image from indoors. And below, we have a couple of images from Victoria’s beach session:
Lovely images, Victoria!

Erie Senior Portraits: Brittany

Today Brittany and her friend Alexa joined us from far away for senior portraits. Here are a few of my favorites:
This shot pulls together the background and her shirt colors.
Here’s a neat shot against my favorite rusty wall.
An interesting black and white shot against bricks and a roll door.
I like this place, especially with black and white clothing!
The bayfront was a bit quiet today. Nice for photos though!

Lovely images, Brittany!

Erie Senior Portraits: Alexa

Today Alexa and her friend Brittany joined us for senior portraits. It was a lot of fun to work with these two friends and their families.
Here is a great image under the railroad underpass.
Another of my favorite settings.
The first time I used this wall in a very long time.
A nice “high key” white indoors:
We made the most of the day, capturing some nice beach images during daylight.

Great images, Alexa!

Senior Pictures in Erie: Caitlin

Tonight was Caitlin’s evening for senior pictures. We started in the studio and captured several nice images there. Here’s a great casual image on one of our interesting backgrounds:
Then we headed outdoors for a fine summer evening of photography.
Here’s a first at this location, using a neat purple building:
We grabbed this great image with the Erie shoreline behind Caitlin:

The sun and sky were very bright tonight. I had to blaze all of my fill lights at full power to match the sun and capture this great portrait:

Later, we took this nice beach side portrait:

The setting sun and some nice fill light balanced out this portrait very well.

Thanks Caitlin! You have some great images here and more on the way in your proof book!

Erie Senior Portraits: Heather’s Volleyball

Today it didn’t just rain, it poured. All of us were a bit concerned about the evening’s session, but as we gathered to start, we ended up with some really interesting, and cool, weather. Yes, we needed the rain, but it had our nerves a bit frazzled.
Starting indoors, we captured some great images on several backdrops, and even picked up a few images requested by Heather in our great 110-year-old building’s grand windows:
Outdoors, one of Heather’s requests was a fire escape setting. I have worked with this area before, having met with the building owners. This is one of a set that we captured on a great fire escape:
Her passion was to be at the beach. Our original expectation was to be satisfied with a dull gray sunset, as it had been cloudy and rainy all day. We started at one of the lighthouses:
Then we headed to Beach 6 which has a great volleyball court as well as nice beach. Here is an awesome image taken against a crazy sunset:
Then we switched to volleyball mode and captured many great images, both by the nets and even better, by the sunset and lake. Here’s one of a whole group of incredible shots in “volleyball mode”:
You can’t capture images like this with a point and shoot. Not even with a consumer dSLR. It requires off-camera lights, precise timing and the knowledge of how to balance sunset lighting with subject lighting in high speed “action” mode.

Heather even headed into the lake to take a pounding from the waves as the sky faded to dark. We got some really amazing shots tonight. Thanks to Heather and her family for being such good sports!

Senior Beach Portraits in Erie: Jordyn

Jordyn came over tonight and we worked with her on her senior portraits.
We captured some great indoor images, including this one with her dog Josie:
Josie was a very good dog, and had a wonderful night as we headed outdoors for some more images with Jordyn. Here’s one in my personal favorite spot:
I take many seniors to this great location. I just love the lighting and the great old rusty setting.
We popped over to the Erie Bayfront, in front of Smuggler’s Wharf, for some early evening images like this one:
I love those posts with the colored paint!
Then on to the beach!  The weather was nice, but the sun was shy, and about 20 minutes before true sunset, it hid behind a cloud bank across the lake. But no worries, we caught this great “sunset” shot and many more:
Then, we caught many more images of the colored sky and some lakeside shots, like this great shot:

Jordyn, it was a pleasure working with you!
